An account of the History of the Tanna Jinkai by Mrs. Kazue Uyeda
Tanna Jinkai was organized by several members of Tanna - Hiroshima in the early 1920's at Shioyu Teahouse on a beach presently located by Hilton Hawaiian Village.
Members assembled at New Years Shinnen Enkai and a picnic was organized during the summer. Picnics were held mainly in Waipio area before Ala Moana Park was opened. The picnic was held near the Waikiki side of the entrance of the park under the big banyan tree. The children enjoyed the races and games, a goodie bag was given to all of the dues paying families and lucky number games love enjoyed by all in the afternoon.
The picnic officially ended at 3pm with everyone helping to clean up. Most families started going home but some stayed back till late to enjoy their BBQs for a full day of fun on the picnic day. Then later several years later due to official order we had to move to a different area - the present location near the bathrooms. Never the less the picnic still being enjoyed by all members of the Tanna Jinkai.
Hopefully our Tanna Jinkai will keep on prospering for many more generations to come.
