2019 Recipient

Congratulations to our 2019 Tanna Jinkai Scholarship recipient Carlos Furukawa!
Carlos Furukawa, son of Bob and Regina Furukawa, won a scholarship of $250. He is a 2019 graduate of Kailua High School,and plans to attend Pomona College in the fall majoring in Biology. At Kaiula HS Carlos achieved a 4.11 GPA and was ranked at the top of his graduating class. Carlos was very involved with his band playing the trombone in jazz band, marching band and symphonic band, becoming a drum major in his junior year. He participated in a summer internship at JABSOM with his UH mentor and professor. He also putting together a research project on the Zika Virus Vaccine and presented it at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland and at the Hawaii State Science Fair.
This past summer he worked at the YMCA summer youth program.
